Notes from the 2013 AGM

As the new Chairman of the trust, Richard Stone addressed the Annual General Meeting held on 19th April 2013 saying that he had agreed to take over as Chair after being approached by Sir Ferrers Vyvyan following the death of Dr Angela Stubbs.  Peter del Tufo confirmed that Angela had been a delight to work with over the years that she had been Chair and spoke of her positive approach and sunny disposition.

  • Richard had attended the South West Education Conference at Trerice, and was impressed by the enthusiasm of the delegates.
  • A number of trustees were standing down from their posts for various reasons: Trish Gibson (Journal Editor) is moving out of the county, Sue Pring (currently Vice Chair), Claire Hewlett (Education co-ordinator), and Peter Fairbank (Secretary for the past 12 years) and the Chair is looking to the membership to fill these vacancies either from their own number or by other friends/associates.
  • Recording is a most important task for the trust, and gave the opportunity to see some gardens that were not otherwise open.  Three new recorders had been recruited last year, but more are needed.
  • The programme of garden visits that had been planned by Angela Stubbs is underway, and there are still places available for most visits.
  • No Journal is being produced this year, but the regular Newsletters will be produced as usual.
  • The membership numbers are fairly stable, but we need more to provide a pool of talent to fill vacancies.
  • The PowerPoint presentation has been rolled out to several audiences including Old Cornwall Societies and some garden clubs, and more bookings have been taken for this autumn and next year.  It lasts up to one hour, is available at no cost, and helps to promote the work of the trust in addition to the Journal, Newsletters and the website.
